A 34-year-old lady, who left her job more or less 10 years ago to sail, is now traveling the world with her cat .
In an article written by Julijia Televiciute of Bored Panda, it was disclosed that Liz Clark, a self-proclaimed “she-pirate”, has been sailing around the world since 2006; after quitting her job as a bartender in San Diego, California.
The journey began when Clark, also known as “Captain Lizzy” now, was given a Cal 40 sailboat on the condition that she would document her adventures around the world.
In 2013, she welcomed a six-month-old kitten, Amelia — who is lovingly referred to as Tropicat — whom she rescued aboard.
“She has adapted to living surrounded by water,” Clark said; noting that Amelia enjoys fishing from the boat, walking on the beach and hiking.
“She has to go out of a cat comfort zone often,” she added. “But I think she now understands that I will keep her safe and she will have a lot of fun in the end. She makes Swell [the yacht] feel much more like a home.”
So far, Clark has traveled along the western coast of Mexico and Central America, and around the South Pacific.
The two, apparently, make a good pair and are now being loved by many people online.
“Is Amelia microchipped and does she normally wear a collar with a tag with your info? I highly recommend this just in case she gets separated from you again. Also use of a harness and leash while on land is safest and a couple I know who sail with their cat got him a little life jacket for emergencies. As you know, it never hurts to be prepared. Thank you for giving Amelia a wonderful life and never giving up your search for her. Please do take precautions with identification though- cats have been reunited miles and months/years later because they had a microchip,” wrote B. Emmons.
“Thank you so much! You are my inspiration! Hopefully my Mr. Milo will also enjoy life on what I hope to obtain soon,” said A. Pagett.
The two now has 20,420 followers on Facebook and 64,600 on Instagram. And it’s no wonder as the “She-pirate & the Tropicat sailing the seas in search of GoodVibes, WildWaves, FreshFruit, Harmony w MamaEarth & Oneness w the InfiniteGreatness” truly inspires.
