- H&M accepts old clothes in exchange of discount vouchers
- They will be accepting unwanted pieces only on Sunday, April 24
- This is in celebration of the World Recycle Week
Got tons of clothes you do not feel like using anymore? Well, maybe you can trade them for new ones.
This Sunday, April 24, H&M will be accepting old clothes in exchange of discount vouchers. The project is part of the global brand’s celebration of the World Recycle Week.
“99% of the garments collected during #WorldRecycleWeek will be reworn, reused [or] recycled,” wrote a post on H&M’s Facebook page.
According to another post, there are “millions of tonnes of clothing thrown away” annually.
H&M had been an advocate of recycling and reusing old, unwanted clothes into new pieces. Last year, it also launched a promo that accepted old jeans also in exchange of discount vouchers.
“We’re committed to changing the way we make, use and dispose of our clothes. Of the thousands of tons of textiles that people throw away every year, as much as 95% could be re-worn or recycled,” as shared in the company’s website.
Having a global sustainable consumption and production pattern is among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) the United Nations (UN) have crafted with other member countries.
“Sustainable consumption and production aims at ‘doing more and better with less’,” said the UN.
“It involves engaging consumers through awareness-raising and education on sustainable consumption and lifestyles, providing consumers with adequate information through standards and labels and engaging in sustainable public procurement, among others,” it added.
