- Singer blasted North Cotabato guv for spurning aid offered by politicians and private citizens
- She says now is the time to help people, not to bicker over politics
- She calls on elitists not to prejudge the rallyists, says they have a right to fight gov’t neglect
MANILA, Philippines – Amid North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza’s criticism of rice assistance being offered by both politicians and private citizens to drought-hit farmers in her province, singer Aiza Seguerra took to social media to remind the former of her obligation to help her constituents.
On her Instagram, Seguerra said the governor should not let her pride get in the way of helping the hungry farmers.
“You can’t eat pride. Now that the Filipino people are stepping up to help you are saying it’s an insult to you,” she said in a mix of Filipino and English. “You say it’s propaganda because other candidates gave or have pledged rice. If those were your candidates, will you say the same thing?”
Seguerra then blasted Mendoza for thinking of politics at this time and said she should focus on helping people.
“You were elected to serve the people. They trusted you. But now, their blood is in your hands. People, not politics, should be placed first,” she said.
Aside from chiding Mendoza, Seguerra also had some choice words for the ‘elitists’ who’ve branded the farmers as communists from the comforts of their homes without even knowing the situation.
“To the elitists who cannot understand the situation, just because you joined a rally you’re a communist. Obviously, they have needs which the government has neglected. Get off first from your high horses so you can see the real situation of the Philippines outside of your exclusive villages,” she said.
“It’s not only rich Filipinos like you who should benefit and be given importance in this country. It should be everyone,” she added.
