- Almost 7,000 jobs waiting for Filipinos in South Korea
- Available jobs are in rubber, plastic, metal, electronic components and food product factories
- Jobseekers are reminded to go through proper channels and documentation to protect them though
MANILA, Philippines – To those who want to work in South Korea, this opportunity might be for you.
According to a report by ABS-CBN, South Korea has increased its quota for OFWs from the previous year and is opening its doors to almost 7,000 Filipinos who might be interested in working there.
Job openings in South Korea are open for Filipinos who are seeking to work in factories producing rubber, plastic and metal, electrical components and food products.
In 2015, the South Korean government set the quota of OFWs at 4,600.
According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the increased number of jobs made available to Filipinos shows South Korean employers trust overseas Filipino workers because of the caliber of their work, their industriousness, and intelligence.
Despite the increased quota, however, jobseekers still have to pass a battery of tests to be eligible for work in South Korea. These include passing a health test and proof of the ability to speak and read Korean by passing a language test.
According to Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Deputy Administrator Amy Reyes, going through the process is a must for any Filipino who wants to work abroad.
“You need to be properly documented,” she said. “This means you have to go through the proper process and, a proof of that proper documentation, is that you have an Overseas Employment Certificate.”
According to Reyes, this kind of set-up — government-to-government special hiring — is more favorable for Filipinos as they can be properly documented and tracked down by the government more easily to protect their interests.
