- Siblings won the Florida lottery at the same time
- The siblings were identified as James Stoclas, a retired Pennsylvania judge, and Bob Stocklas
- Both won $ 291 million and $ 7 million, respectively
A rare case of luck was experienced by siblings after both won in the Florida lottery in the amounts of $ 291 million and $ 7 million.
As improbable as it sounds, it happened to a retired Pennsylvania judge and his brother who just wrapped up a monthlong fishing vacation in the Florida Keys, an article written by John Newsome which was published by CNN on March 6 stated.
According to reports, the judge, James Stocklas, and his brother, Bob, bought lottery tickets in a local marathon gas station on their way home from the beach. After buying their tickets, the siblings proceeded to their home.
After the lottery’s March 2 draw, the judge went back to work. His regular routine is to eat breakfast at a restaurant. As he sat and waited for his order, he happened to check the numbers on his phone and realized he’d won. To celebrate his luck he bought breakfast for everyone in the restaurant. He also called his family and said, “We are going back to Florida!”
Meanwhile, the Florida lottery noted the double winners by printing Bob Stocklas a full-size winner’s check while James chose the lump sum payment of $ 191 million.
The retired judge had a long tradition of pooling weekly lottery ticket purchases with two of his friends named Barry and Anna.
When asked how he will use his winnings, the retired judge said he’ll use the winnings to pay off his mortgage and to do “certain things that will make life a little easier” and that he’ll still work occasionally as a senior judge filling in on cases.
He also said he’ll be taking care of his two grown children and his brother James, who only won $ 7 in the powerball draw.
“We’ve been laughing a lot about it, he doesn’t need to worry about nothing. Family’s family. He’s not going to worry about anything,” the judge was quoted saying.
