- Pacquiao continues his training for his April 9 match against Bradley
- Roach says Pacquiao is ready for the match
- “He looks good, he looks sharp. He’s training as hard as ever.” – Roach on Pacquiao
It seems that all is set for Manny Pacquiao as his trainer Freddie Roach said his longtime ward is ready to fight Timothy Bradley on April 9 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted the Hall of Fame trainer as saying: “He looks good, he looks sharp. He’s training as hard as ever.
Roach is confident that the Filipino boxing icon still has what it takes to knock out his opponents just like when he was still in his prime.
In order to prepare Pacquiao for what could be his last fight inside the boxing ring, Roach tapped Lydell Rhodes and Ghislain Maduma to be his sparring partners.
In their sparring sessions, Pacquiao always overwhelmed both of the boxers.
Pacquiao said in his previous interviews he wants to finish his career as a professional boxer with a knockout victory against Bradley.
Ring TV quoted the 37-year-old boxer as saying: “I’m trying to have a knockout in that fight. I’m not saying to predict the fight, but I’m trying to do my best so the people enjoy my last fight.”
As for Bradley, who describes himself as a ‘smart monster’, his trainer Teddy Atlas is preparing him as though he will be facing Pacquiao in his prime and not as a boxer who is about to retire.
When Atlas was asked during an interview with Boxing Scene: “In what ways has age and injury changed Pacquiao?”
He answered: “I didn’t see any influence from injury in the Mayweather fight. When he had to throw that hand, he did without wincing or discomfort. As for age, I haven’t seen any dissipation, and I don’t expect any now.”
Atlas said that in order to defeat a dynamic fighter like Pacquiao who utilizes both speed and power, speed will be an important part of the equation for Bradley.
“But calculated and controlled speed,” he emphasized.
