The Filipino-American student who aced the college-level Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB with perfect score is looking forward to a trip to the White House after getting an invitation from no less than President Barack Obama himself.
Cedrick Argueta rose to internet fame after scoring perfect at the highly-difficult Calculus exam; one of only twelve students in the world – out of 302,531 examinees – to achieve the admirable feat.
Obama quickly took notice of the 17-year-old Abraham Lincoln High School student and tweeted an invitation for the boy to come over to Washington.
“Cedrick, way to go on your perfect score! How about you come by the next White House Science Fair?” Obama wrote on Twitter.
Asked how he feels about getting invited by one of the most powerful man in the world, Cedrick said he is thrilled and looking forward to meeting the US President.
“I really was excited to have the most influential man in the world, the most important man in the world, invite me to the White House for the science fair,” ABS-CBN News quoted the boy as saying.
Cedrick added: “I’m glad I’m able to do this not just for my culture but all cultures so everybody can realize that all things are possible.”
Last Tuesday, February 9, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board of Education honored the senior high student for his remarkable achievement.
In his speech, Cedrick said it was the “team effort” that helped him pass the test and credited his teacher, Korean immigrant Anthony Yom, for the latter’s dedication in driving and motivating them to excel in school.
He also revealed his dream to study at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), and hopefully work as an engineer for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
“I want to be an engineer because I’ve always liked math and science, so going into that field makes sense for me,” the Fil-Am teener said in an interview with Asian Journal.
Cedrick, now known in school as “One of the Twelve”, is the son of Filipina nurse Lilian Argueta from Batangas and an El Salvadoran maintenance worker at a nursing home.
