Educators are people we hold responsible for molding the minds of the future, or so they say. In a person’s formative years, they have their teachers to look up to for knowledge, guidance and direction. This is why entering this profession is such a difficult task because it sometimes requires you to be your best self for your students. But an English teacher in Indiana apparently didn’t get this memo as she was caught allegedly doing drugs by her own students.
Will Rogers was a junior at Lake Central High School. On a regular day he came across his English teacher in a locked classroom. The teacher seemed to be doing something suspicious but Will couldn’t make out what she was doing, so he decided to record a video.
According to Rogers:
“She’s in the corner, hiding with a chair and a book and what appears to be cocaine, putting it into lines.“
It was when he reviewed the video that he got a sense of what his English teacher might be doing.
“When I actually watched the footage again and again and I just realized that my English teacher just did cocaine.“
The video spread like wildfire and reached the hands of the school authorities who called local police. The officers led out 24-year-old Samantha Cox out of the school in handcuffs. Samantha has been charged with possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. The former English teacher is currently staying at Lake County Jail.
Based on a prior investigation, it is believed that the young teacher has been snorting a mixture of cocaine and heroin. School officials and parents have commended the students who quickly reacted and alerted proper officials.
Anthony Rios, a junior from the school, had something to say regarding the whole incident that might become food for thought for any form of authority out there.
“You’re told as a child to listen to them, respect them and stuff like that… But it’s kinda hard to respect somebody who does cocaine in a classroom.”
