Earlier in 2014, an odd post appeared on Craigslist. An old church formerly inhabited by Methodists in southeastern New York was put up for sale. At first, the ad was bombarded with countless inquiries, but the public interest waned after finding out the grisly secret attached to the old church.
The spacious property, which is located in the Catskills, was priced at $ 99,000 (approximately PHP 5 million) at Craigslist. This is already a low price, considering the fact that the property boasts 2,500 square feet of spacious floorspace. Aside from that, the building is also far from your conventional church!
It was converted into a house that could also function as a studio. The space that used to hold the pews was replaced with an open dining and living area. Meanwhile, the priests’ room next to the the altar was converted into a bathroom and kitchen.
In the beginning, people’s interest peaked after seeing the spacious and well-refurbished property. Indeed, it seems like such a good deal to pass for a small price to pay. However, upon further inspection, disappointed potential buyers left the site with drooping shoulders.
And who can blame them? Not everybody is willing to share their property with an old graveyard! Yes, you heard that right. The 2,500 sq. ft. property includes a small graveyard attached to the backyard of the old church.
Though it’s such a good deal, living beside an old graveyard is not really most people’s cup of tea. Perhaps a buyer who does not mind this secret will be willing to pay the bucks in the future.
On the other hand, the owner updated that the church is still up for sale:
“Please get in touch with me if you are interested! It probably needs to be a CASH Deal- that is why deals fall apart- folks think they can get a mortgage but they cannot. I have the plans and permits but I never did the work- so, it is AS-IS for CASH. I know there is a buyer out there- it is such a great deal at 99K- as soon as the work is done it will be worth more than double and make the BEST HOME or RETREAT or ART STUDIO ever!”
