A newborn baby from India was born with a fascinating but equally complicated medical condition wherein her beating heart lies outside of her chest.
Due to the family's lack of money, 28-year-old mother Tazmina Khatun was not able to afford medical assistance throughout her pregnancy, leaving them unaware of the child's condition. So during the baby's birth at a public hospital in a village in Assam, the parents and doctors were stunned upon seeing the newborn.
Khatun's utmost joy was laced with worry for her baby.
The baby was born with an extremely rare condition called Ectopia Cardis where the heart is located outside the chest wall.
The doctors at the hospital referred the baby to a more advance heart institute. Under government expenses, the baby will be undergoing a life-saving surgery.
"The baby has a condition called ectopia cardis where her heart developed outside her chest wall," explained one of her doctors, Dr. Manirul Islam Sarkar. "We acted efficiently to save her and later referred her to a heart institute where the child would undergo a surgery under government expenses."
“We are hoping for a successful surgery," he added.
Khatun's husband 29-year-old Jahirul Isma also expressed his devastation upon the condition of his firstborn. The daily wage laborer said he is hoping for a miracle to save his child.
"I could not hold back tears when I saw the baby. I had never seen any baby like this before and could not believe my child was born this way."
"We are worried [about] what will happen to our baby and only hoping for a miracle for her survival."
