If you think that the number of homeless people in the Philippines is staggering, we are still fortunate compared to the state of Los Angeles who declared a state of emergency last year because of the overwhelming increase of homeless individuals. Most of them are veterans who have once risked their lives for the country but have been suffering destitution since recession affected the US.
However, LA implemented collective efforts to solve the problem. One of which had been very impressive. They turned old motels into apartments for these homeless veterans. These apartments were built through the funding from “Step up”, a non-profit organization.
They were able to decrease the said population to 30% this year and is looking forward to significantly decreasing the number of homeless people when all of the apartments get finished by 2017.
