Fruit farmer Ramli Che Ngah from Kelantan, Malaysia wants people to eat his fruits for free.
But why would he give away his fruits for nothing?
Well, it’s not because wants to lose money, but because he doesn’t want the hard work that he put into his fruits to go to waste.
The farmer has over 150 dokong trees, 100 rambutan trees, 20 rambai trees and an unknown amount of petai trees on his farm. Poor sales have created a large surplus of these fruits with nowhere to go. His buyers would buy his fruits at 10 cents per kilo, meaning he makes less than he needs. Even his employees are paid very little.
Now Ramil is begging for visitors to come to his farm, so his fruits won’t simply rot away.
“Please come, it is fine even if you eat them for free. I am sad when I see my fruits rot away just like that. I want to sell them but sales aren’t good, in the end, they are left to turn into fertilizer.” he states.
He begs for Malaysian government officials to find a solution for his surplus. Like in the Philippines, small-time farmers in Malaysia have a hard time keeping up with supermarkets.
