People sleep to regain their energy again after a day of hard work. It is also a way to nurse an injury.
There are different sleeping positions, from Fetal to Starfish position. But experts in medical and science like Dr. John Douillard, says sleeping on your left side is the healthiest way to sleep.
Here are the three reasons:
1) Spine and breating
Your spine would thank you if you sleep on your left side as it is the best at providing optimal air flow for your lungs. It also puts pressure on the upper back and your hips as it often leaves your lower back in a suspended state.
2) Lymph draining
Majority of the lymphatic system is located at the left side of your body so when you sleep on your left side, you're allowing to take some of the pressure of the lymph drainage away from your heart and your spleen, which is very healthy to your body. Hooray for your lymphatic system!
3) Digestion
We always love to eat but do you want your food to be digested faster when you're sleeping? Sleeping on your left side will your large and small intestines to process food faster since it helps the travel of the food. A 10-minute rest on your left side after eating is highly recommended to combact dreaded food comas.
However, don't force yourself to change your sleeping habit. Experts warned people that forcing to chance sleeping habits would cause more harm than good so take it one step at a time!
