Monday, President Joko Widodo said that President Rodrigo Duterte has given the go signal for the Execution of Mary Jane Veloso, who is in the death row.
Joko stated that, "President Duterte has given the go-ahead to proceed with the execution." This was quoted by Antara News Agency in Serang, Banten.
President Widodo then said, "I have explained to [Duterte] about Mary Jane’s situation and I told him that Mary Jane [has been found guilty] for carrying 2.6 kilograms of heroin. I also told him about the delay in the execution during the meeting."
However, based on Widodo, the legal process will be pursued by Attorney General M. Prasetyo.
Veloso was the one arrested at the Adisucipto Airport in Yogyakarta in April 2010.
She was then excluded from the list of the third round of the the poeple who will be executed by the Attorney's General's Office in April. Legal procedure will go on in a separate but a relevant case in the Philippines.
She was also in the list of execution last year however, she was approved to stay due to the arrest of her boss in the Philippines. However, authorities in Indonesia wants to go on with the case.
