- Facebook introduces new emojis to better capture ‘the world we live in’
- This includes emojis of various skin tones and a female gender
- Facebook has standardized its set of emojis so that it will be seen the same way whether users are accessing it via Android or iOS platforms
Did you notice something new about Facebook recently?
Facebook redesigned the way its users can communicate by incorporating more emojis that are accurate enough for every online user regardless of gender, race or age.
“From skin tones that you can choose to lots of women in great roles, Messenger is beginning to make emojis more representative of the world we live in,” Facebook said in a post as it acknowledged how emojis change the way people communicate online.
A Forbes story said that it is the women users who commonly input emojis in their messages.
This prodded Facebook messenger to provide more emojis for gender-balanced expressions as it introduced a “female police officer, runner, pedestrian, surfer and swimmer for the very first time,” said the social media giant.
This update comes as the people logged in on Facebook using different platforms – Android, iOS devices – see emojis differently. Now, there are over 1,500 emojis that can be sent and read the same way.
According to the story by Forbes, 10% of messages sent via Facebook Messenger contains emojis; that is why it has been important for the tech company to keep a standardized set in its very platform.
“Messenger is addressing emoji woes by rolling out a new set of standardized emojis so you can be sure you’re sending the right message. No matter what emoji you pick, it will now look the same for all Messenger users, regardless if the recipient is on Android, iOS or another platform. In other words, no more broken-looking black boxes or emojis that just don’t make sense,” Facebook said.
“Our characters are consistent every time you use them, no matter what platform the recipient is on,” it added.
