- Duterte says he will use his spare campaign funds as bounty for illegal drug traffickers
- A news story pegs the total amount to be as much as P1 bilion
- Duterte has earlier declared war on drugs warning those involved that they will be killed
President-elect Rodrigo Duterte said he will use the surplus money from his campaign funds as bounty for illegal drug peddlers.
The incoming president said during his thanksgiving party last Saturday, June 4, that he has money “good for 200 persons.”
A PhilStar story published June 6 computed that it would amount to as much as P1 billion pesos since Duterte earlier said that he pegs to to give as much as P5 million as reward for those who can crack down on drug traffickers.
Duterte, whose primary campaign promise was to eradicate drugs and criminality in three to six months, had been very firm on his stance that he hates drugs.
Known for his iron-clad leadership, the outgoing Davao City Mayor earlier told citizens armed with guns to shoot a drug dealer and earn a reward.
“Please feel free to call us, the police, or do it yourself if you have the gun – you have my support,” he was quoted in a story by Al Jazeera.
“Shoot him and I’ll give you a medal,” he stressed and also said: “If you are involved in drugs, I will kill you. You son of a whore, I will really kill you.”
He also previously warned police officers who are involved in drug trade that he will kill them.
“‘Pag nandiyan ka pa sa droga, ipapapatay kita. Don’t take this as a joke. Hindi ako nagpapatawa. Putangina, papatayin talaga kita,” he also said, referring to erring policemen, during his thanksgiving party last Saturday.
[If you continue in illegal drug trade, I will have you killed. I am not joking. Son of a bitch, I will really kill you.]
