It’s a long way to the altar for many but a recent study indicates that for almost 1 in 10 couples call it quits for a very unfortunate reason.
A report by Barclays indicated that around nine percent of engaged couples break up due to quarrels over the wedding budget and finances, with brides and grooms-to-be admit having an average of nine arguments due to money issues.
The study covered a thousand married couples in the United Kingdom.
In addition, it was discovered that couples spend on average £7,971 for their wedding ceremony, which brings a total of £1,919,799,063 being spent annually to celebrate the “big day.”
It is to no surprise then that about 29 percent of couples said that budgeting for the wedding was the “most daunting” part of being married in the first place.
More people worry about sticking to their budget over other concerns such as the weather, finding the right dress, making the proper seating arrangements, and even getting cold feet.
In fact, almost 1 in 5 couples aged 25 to 34 years old have even considered cancelling their wedding over budget concerns.
“Planning a wedding should be one of the happiest times of your life, but too often financial worries put a real strain on couples. In fact, our research shows that on average a fifth argue about money before their big day,” Barclays savings and investing expert Clare Francis told the Mirror.
Given such information, Barclays suggest that couples should discuss their “moneymoon” as an important step towards planning for their wedding day and for their financial future.
