Duterte faced many controversies since his campaign started. Many things has surfaced that invited a lot criticisms against him. For one, is his interview where he made a remark about journalists killings. He said that they were killed because they were corrupt. In defense, his team said that the context were clearly misunderstood. Another is when he catcalled the news reporter Mariz Umali in one of his press conferences. He went under fire from the netizens and even with Umali’s husband Raffy Tima. In defense, he asked for freedom of expression and said that whistling is not ‘a sxual thing’. He also had a lot critics with his excessive cussing on public television. But his supporters defended him by saying that he is just being himself.
But after another media conflict, with regards to an Inquirer report last Friday about the release of political prisoners, Duterte has gotten tired of media. He claims that the media have always been twisting his statements. With this he formally stated at the turnover of command ceremony of the Davao City Police last Friday that there will be no interviews for him anymore until the end of his term. Quoting from his interview, “I will not respond to questions anymore ever until the end of my term,” This was confirmed by his team saying that they will no longer grant interviews so there would be no more mistakes.
