- Domino’s Pizza in Australia is trying a robot called Domi-No-Drivers on delivering food to customers

SYDNEY, Australia – Domino’s Pizza in Australia is trying a new innovative way of delivering fresh pizza at the doorstep through a delivery robot.
Kara O’Neill mentioned in her article for The Mirror published on March 18 that the new driverless robot will use customer’s smartphone to find their location to deliver the food.
The robot is also equipped with a sophisticated detection system to anticipate obstacles in the road; thus making deliveries faster.
Domino’s Pizza claims that the new robot is capable of carrying four times as many pizzas that a regular “people driven vehicle” does.
“We’ve been toying with driverless deliveries for a while, but we needed to make sure the tech was able to match up with our ideas,” said Phil Zozra; the Director of the Domino’s Pizza Redevelopment and New Knowledge division.
“Now that we’ve got the bikes and the automation to the right level, we can’t wait to get the Domi-No-Drivers out on the road,” Zozra added.
An article by Janet Burns for Forbes published on March 18 quoted Zozra explaining that the robot is not just a “wow factor” but rather gave an added range of innovation benefits.
The robot was equipped with L.I.D.A.R (Light Detection and Ranging) technology used in Google’s driverless cars and added H.U.N.G.A.R (Hunger Detection and Ranging) to help detect and navigate real-time obstacles.
“We’ve tried to think of it from every angle so all you have to do is place your order and enjoy – hassle free,” Zozra said.
Each Domi-No-Driver will also come equipped with Domino’s patented P.I. (Pizza Interface) intelligence that can connect into customers’ coordinates via their smartphones. The P.I. will be used by the robot to calculate the most efficient route of delivery in the fastest time.
