- Almost 90 percent of the 4,000 NPC members agreed to support the presidential and vice-presidential bids of Grace Poe and Francis Escudero
- ‘Abide by the decision or leave the party’, Sotto tells NPC party members
- Even though only 51 percent has voted in favor of the decision, the rate already makes up for the majority
ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — Members of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) who go against the party’s decision to support the presidential and vice presidential aspirations of Senators Grace Poe and Francis “Chiz” Escudero are free to leave the party.
This was expressed by NPC senior official Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III who said that the NPC has come up with the decision which the members should abide with.
Sotto said that almost 90 percent of at least 4,000 party members agreed to support the Poe-Escudero tandem in the coming May polls.
Maila Ager’s article published in the Inquirer on Tuesday disclosed that, according to Sotto, even if only 51 percent has agreed, that still counts for the majority as he pointed out that they have to follow the rule of majority.
Sotto also said that. according to NPC President and Deputy Speaker Giorgidi Aggabao. close to 90 percent of the party members agreed while 10 percent voted against the decision.
The 10 percent who did not agree with the decision have been advised to take a leave or let the party know that they are against supporting the decision.
He likewise stressed that those who were not in favor won’t be expecting support from the party if they go against the decision.
However, the reelectionist senator said that they have not yet thought of sanctions at this point in time.
He also denied some detractors’ claim that the NPC do not keep solidarity on its decision.
The senator even asked if all LP members of the various parties like the LP, UNA and Lakas are solid.
LP is Liberal Party which supports former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas for president while UNA (United Nationalist Alliance) roots for Vice President Jejomar Binay.
