Filipino-Canadian Rhys Gutierrez was recently selected to dance with teen pop idol Justin Bieber during his latest “Purpose” tour in Vancouver, Canada.
The thirteen-year-old Gutierrez, who is a Bieber fan for a long time, was one of the four chosen to dance with Bieber as he sang “Children” during the concert tour.
Gutierrez still can’t believe that she shared the dance floor with the Canadian pop sensation just a week ago. Six years ago, she was just one of the fans who watched his concerts.
“He touched me, I remember it was on this shoulder. After the concert, I was like ‘Did that happen?’ It was just so amazing and surreal, couldn’t believe that happened,” she said.
Gutierrez learned about the selection after choreographer Nick Demoura announced that fans fifteen years old and under has a chance to dance with Bieber during the concert tour. Gutierrez sent a dance video of herself on the same day the announcement was made and was emotional after getting the news two days after.
According to dance coach Joe Tuliao, Gutierrez has been a hardworking dancer ever since she started dancing and is proud of her accomplishment.
“That proud moment knowing that one of your students is dancing for the biggest pop star in the world right now, I’m very proud of her. Rhys, stay humble, stay hungry, always learn and be a sponge. Absorb everything,” he said.
According to an article written by Marieton Pacheco and published by ABS-CBN, the young Filipino-Canadian has been featured on different local media outfits after, and she has been happily sharing her experience as an inspiration to other children.
“Just have a lot of confidence in yourself, even if you feel like not doing it, just go for it, give it a shot and you’ll be surprised with the outcome, the results,” Gutierrez said.
