- Dashcam shows overtaking AUV crashing into a motorcycle in Marcos Highway flyover in Baguio
- Motorcycle driver flipped in the air and tossed to the ground, miraculously survives
- Auto experts warn drivers not to overtake in roads with double yellow lines
MANILA, Philippines – Never overtake on roads with double yellow lines — it signifies a no-passing zone.
Motorists are being reminded with this important information as a viral video showing the horrific collision between an overtaking AUV and a motorcycle punctuates what can happen if those lines are ignored.
According to GMA News, the incident — which took place on Saturday at the Marcos Highway flyover in Baguio City and was recorded via the dashcam of Atty. Jose Absalom Jocom — transpired after a Mitsubishi Adventure tried to overtake some vehicles in the blind curve juncture of the highway.
As can be seen in the video, the speeding AUV collides head-on with a motorcycle in the opposite lane. The force of the crash is so massive it sent the driver of the motorcycle flipping through the air before being smashed to the ground. The man’s helmet was also blown away by the collision.
Miraculously, the driver survived.
In a blotter of the incident in Tuba, Benguet, it was reported he would not file a case as the AUV owner has already settled with him.
Commenting on the incident, Auto Association of the Philippines executive Johnny Angeles warns the public to be mindful of double yellow lines as it means overtaking on the road is prohibited due to it being a high-risk area.
“All drivers must know. On pavement with a double yellow line, absolutely you cannot overtake,” he said.
