- Susan Roces tours La Paz Public Market for daughter Grace Poe’s campaign
- There she was asked about her reaction on the criticisms of Poe’s citizenship
- Some of the people in the market approve of Poe over fellow Visayan, Mar Roxas
Presidential candidate Grace Poe’s mother, Susan Roces, joined her daughter on Tuesday in her campaign in Iloilo, where she was found in a church as a baby.
The actress and wife of the late “King of Philippine Movies,” Fernando Poe Jr. toured the La Paz Public Market while Poe covered a gathering at Carles town.
During her visit, the media again asked the veteran actress on the disqualification cases lodged against her daughter questioning her citizenship.
To which, Roces answered blatantly, “Hindi ko mawari kung bakit nila sinasabi na hindi Filipino ang anak ko. Paano kaya siya naglanding dito?” [I can’t understand how they can say my daughter is not a Filipino? How did she end up here, then?]
“I guess it’s part of politics. Nangyari na rin ‘yan sa asawa ko noon, iba nga lang ang kaso [It already happened to my husband though with a different case],” she said again as quoted in an InterAksyon report.
She also denied the rumors that Poe is her sister, actress Rosemarie Sonora’s, daughter with former president Ferdinand Marcos.
“Kasama ko ang kapatid ko, araw at gabi, noong mga panahon na iyon. Hindi ko siya nakitang nagdadalang-tao. [I was with my sister day and night, during those periods. I never saw her pregnant]. That was 1968, the year I got married,” she also said in the same report.
Meanwhile, it would seem that for the vendors of the La Paz Public Market, Poe is a viable candidate.
Inquirer, in its February 16 report, quoted some of the interviews with the people present during Roces’ visit.
When they were asked who they will be voting for, some uttered Poe’s name. While a 51-year-old said she will vote for davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte should Poe be disqualified.
“Pag wala si Grace Poe, suporta kami kay Duterte ‘pag wala siya,” Egecylin Calumpita said. [We will suport Duterte if there will be no Grace Poe.]
While some, when asked about their reception about fellow Ilonggo Mar Roxas, a number said they disapprove of him because he is a snob.
