- Senator unfazed by plan to oppose his candidacy by martial law victims
- He remains firm on stand, will only apologize for personal wrongdoings
- He also says he’s prepared to answer any criticism thrown at him
BATAC, Ilocos Norte—Nope, still no sorry from him.
Reiterating his previous position on not apologizing for the human rights abuses done by his father, vice presidential bet Sen. Bongbong Marcos said he will only say sorry for wrongs he committed in his personal capacity.
“I have already made my position very clear. I will apologize for any wrong that I may have done against somebody, that is always my position and I will continue to hold that position,” GMA News quoted him as saying.
With the campaign season officially opening, Marcos said he expects criticism over his family’s decades-long rule to increase but stressed he was prepared handle them.
“Ganyan naman ang pulitika. Kahit naman sino ang tumakbo, kahit na sa anong posisyon ay merong kalaban, merong katunggali. Expected naman naming yan (That’s politics. Whoever runs in whatever position, there is always an opponent. That is expected),” he said. ”And of course, we are prepared to answer any of the criticisms that they made or any of the questions that they have for me.”
Marcos has regularly drawn flak from critics for his unrepentant stance.
A group of martial law victims called Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacañang (CARMMA) earlier blasted the solon for trying to paint himself as innocent and vowed to oppose his candidacy.
“Bongbong peddles the lie that his father’s wealth was legitimate. He inherited the ill-gotten wealth of his father. How could the Marcos family live in style all these years?” UP professor and one of the group’s leaders Judy Taguiwalo asked.
