LONDON, United Kingdom – The production company behind the blockbuster movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is being prosecuted in a court in Britain over an incident on the movie set involving actor Harrison Ford.
Dave McNary said in his article for the Variety published on February 11 that a health and safety official confirmed on Thursday that Foodles Production UK will appear in court in May.
Ford, now 73 years old, was struck by a heavy door at Pinewood Studios west of London while on the set for the film’s Millennium Falcon spaceship in June 2014. The actor was airlifted to a hospital afterwards.
An article by GMA News published on February 11 said that Foodles Production UK faces four charges alleging that it breached health and safety law.
“The charges relate to an incident during filming of ‘Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens’, which left Harrison Ford with serious injuries after he was hit by a heavy hydraulic door,” said Britain’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which is the official body responsible for workplace safety, in a statement.
“By law, employers must take reasonable steps to protect workers — this is as true on a film set as a factory floor,” it added.
The hearing will take place at a court near the studios on May 12.
Yahoo News said in their article published on February 11 that “The Force Awakens”, the seventh instalment in the Star Wars series, became the fastest movie ever to pass the $ 1 billion mark in global box office sales.
As of February 7, 2016, the movie has generated a global box office revenue of $ 2 billion; becoming the third film in cinematic history to do so. It is the highest-grossing film in the franchise in North America and for 2015, as well as the third-highest grossing movie of all time. Another two sequels, Episode VIII and Episode IX, are scheduled for release in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
