SARANGANI – Senatorial candidate Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao has built over a 1,000 houses for poor Filipinos in his home town of Sarangani province. This housing project is to be given free to the beneficiaries and was financed from the boxer-turned-politician’s own pocket.
On Valentine’s day, February 14, the boxing icon posted on his Facebook page a photo of the housing project and expressed his joy on being able to share his blessings to his constituents.
“I’m so happy giving these houses free to my constituents in Sarangani Province from my own pocket more than thousand families are the beneficiaries,” he said.
He , as well, said that he is in the process of building more houses for more people. He also quoted a verse from the bible revealing his reasons for such benevolence.
“…and I’m still building more because I always believe what the bible says; 1 Peter 4:8-10 NIV [8] Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. [9] Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. [10] Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. Thank you Lord for everything even some people are criticizing me but I’m still happy because you live in me,” he said.
Carol Ndanu mentioned in her article on Niaje that the world famous boxer, preacher and senatorial hopeful has made it no secret that he wants to serve God by serving people. The article added that Pacquiao has used his prominence and wealth to serve the people around him the best way he can.
According to an article written by William and posted on The Star, Pacquiao is a born-again Christian and has earned millions of dollars from his last bout with undefeated boxing great, Floyd Mayweather.
In a story by Aquiles Zonio of PhilBoxing, it was disclosed that Pacquiao in December of 2015 has already given out 150 housing units to homeless residents of Bales, Maasim, Sarangani. According to the project contractor, Ricardo Marcella, the whole project dubbed as Pacman Village is worth P28.5 million and came out of Pacman’s personal funds. An additional 300 housing units will be built in the four-hectare land Pacquiao bought a few years back to donate to more homeless families.
