The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that a deaf Uber driver has been receiving praises from netizens because of his remarkable endurance and skillful service despite his disability.
Twitter user Deen Samson posted a photo of the driver, who was actually a former soldier. She captioned it "I salute you kuya for your service!"
In the photo, a note is placed at the back of the driver's seat for the convenience of the passengers. It reads "Your Uber driver is hard of hearing due to his service in the Philippine Army. Please be patient with him. Thank you."
The post has already garnered 15,000 likes and the Tweet has been retweeted 2,400 times as of this writing.
According to a reply by another Twitter user, the Uber driver lost his hearing because of a "canon fire in Sulu."
In order to assist drivers who are hearing-impaired, Uber released "Project Beethoven" last 2016. Named after renowned deaf composer Ludwig van Beethoven, it aims to inform riders that their drivers are deaf in order to avoid confusion and prevent discrimination.
