A policewoman from Ukraine died from tuberculosis (TB) after contracting the contagious disease while arresting a thug more than seven months ago.
According to The Sun, Arina Koltsova, a 35-year-old police officer from Kiev, became ill and was diagnosed with TB after a suspect spit on her face during an arrest in New Year’s Day.
Her on-duty partner, Officer Mikhail Kindrakevich, said Koltsova was hospitalized for weeks but was unable to recover despite the chemotherapy she had to undergo.
“She became ill after New Year’s day,” Kindrakevich recalled. “She had arrested this guy and he spat on her face. Some time later she collapsed.”
Her colleagues said the victim was not aware she contracted the disease and remains untreated for long until she collapsed and was told that she’s already fatally infected.
The once bubbly and healthy female cop suddenly became undernourished while being treated in a hospital.
“She had received treatment. She underwent chemotherapy, she was fed food through an IV drip and she had lost a lot of weight,” Kindravech said.
The good-looking policewoman died late in July and was buried in Kiev two days later.
Friends and colleagues took to social media to pay tribute to the fallen cop.
“This is an irreplaceable loss for the whole of Kiev police, fond memories of Arina will remain in our hearts forever,” her unit wrote on Facebook.
One of her friends added: “Arina wanted to change something for our country. Joining the police was a conscious choice, she wanted to change things for the better.”
It is not known whether the suspect who spit on the victim’s face will be facing charges over Koltsova’s death.
