Pia Wurtzbach apologizes for her gay child comment on television

Recently, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach stirred quite a bit of controversy when she publicly remarked something about homosexuals on television.

The beauty queen appeared in an episode of the evening talk show “Tonight With Boy Abunda” and blurted out the following words on the program’s “Golden Show” segment, “Not to say na hindi ka aalagaan kung straight ‘yung anak mo but based on my experience, iba mag-alaga ‘yung beki.”

Based on Philippine Daily Inquirer’s report, Pia admitted that she wanted a young homosexual to take care of her. However, her comment was met with criticism from some people. They cited that her remarks showed how much she sees homosexuals.

Apparently, some netizens were offended. A Twitter user shared his sentiments with the status (as quoted by the source):

“Pia Wurtzbach’s statement regarding having a gay child reveals the truth about how she sees us, gay people. Someone whose purpose is to make her look beautiful, to do her make up, to be her “bestfriend”. Damn, what a way to reinforce archaic stereotypes about gay people.”

He continued with a possible scenario of Pia Wurtzbach and a baby:

Baby: M…Ma..Ma..
Pia Wurtzbach: Oh Marlon, look it’s our baby’s first word! Say Mama!
Baby: Ma..Ma..Magpapamakeup po ba kayo today?!?!?!

The beauty queen expressed her apologies for her remarks on the same social media platform and added that she was surprised at how the public had reacted.

She mentioned that they should not misinterpret her words. An excerpt of her status on Twitter reads, I have high regard for the LGBT [community]. It was just a fun interview, guys! Meant no disrespect at all.”

In another tweet, Pia Wurtzbach said that she has learned her lesson from the incident. She wrote, “[A]lways be cautious with what you say!”
