Kapamilya artist Jessy Mendiola is in hot water for the nth time. This time, netizens are bashing the actress for getting a freehand mermaid tattoo on her arm.
Done in watercolor-style with various shades of blue, the abstract image of the mythical sea creature looked ethereal and fantastic, as it appeared to be floating upwards. However, there seems to be no pleasing the finicky tastes of Jessy’s hordes of trolls and bashers.
On Instagram Stories, Jessy shared a close-up photo of her new ink with her 2.6 million followers,
and the story was picked up by the showbiz website Fashion Pulis.
Moreover, it looked like supportive boyfriend, actor Luis Manzano, joined her during the tattoo
session since he also posted about it on his own Instagram account.
According to a KAMI report, the young actress didn’t reveal the reason behind her chosen design. However, one quick look at Jessy’s Instagram feed will show her undeniable love for the sea since she often takes beach trips on her off days, so perhaps, her new tatt is an ode to one of her favorites?
Try as she might, Jessy will never be a favorite among netizens since most of them had negative reactions on her body art, flooding the comments section of the original Fashion Pulis post.
Bashers kept saying that the freehand design was quite confusing and it looked a lot like a tadpole because of its tail.
Some online users questioned the alien-like appearance because the mermaid lacked a clear, identifiable face.
Other trolls had a different idea in mind – something that’s borderline graphic and unfit for children’s eyes.
And the color? Yes, the blue color didn’t seem like a good choice since most of us are used to Disney’s idea of a mermaid with a green fish tail and red hair.
The dreamy, freehand design was done by Wiji Lacsamana, an acclaimed illustrator and artist known for her watercolor tattoo designs. She has been previously featured on the Allure website.
