Veteran actress Claudine Barretto took to Instagram to share how happy she was now that ex-boyfriend Mark Anthony Fernandez is finally home. The actress posted a screenshot of her Facebook post, which read, “Im so so happy that Mark Anthony Fernandez is finally home!”
Just in time for Christmas, Mark Anthony was released from jail on Friday, December 22. The former actor was imprisoned for over a year for transportation of illegal drugs.
Claudine was only 15 years old when she and Mark Anthony first got together. The two were very open about their on and off relationship in the past. They also worked on a few projects together, the most well known of which were “Mangarap Ka” (1996) and “Pare Ko” (1996). As kids, the couple thought that they would be spending the rest of their lives together. They even got matching tattoos of each other’s surnames. However, the two eventually decided to call it quits.
According to a report from PEP, Mark Anthony was released from the Angeles City Jail in San Fernando, Pampanga. The case against him for transportation of illegal drugs was dismissed, with only the misdemeanor charge remaining. Mark Anthony was arrested on October 3rd of last year after he was caught with an estimated one kilo of marijuana at a checkpoint in Pampanga. While he admitted to being a marijuana user, the actor denied that the block of marijuana found in his car was his, saying that someone else must have put it in his car. It is well-known that Mark Anthony has struggled with drug use in the past, and has undergone subsequent drug rehabilitation.
After spending more than one year in jail, the actor will finally get to spend the holidays with his family.
PEP reported that Mark Anthony’s family and he himself preferred not to comment on his release. He said that all he wants now is to spend and enjoy Christmas with his family. However, the actor admitted that this is probably their best Christmas ever.
Actor Joey Marquez, the husband of Mark Anthony’s mother, Alma Moreno, commented on his release.
“Isa ako sa pinakamasaya sa nangyari ngayon. Kanina ko lang nalaman na nakalaya na siya. Kausap ko siya sabi niya ‘blowout mo ako’. Sabi ko ‘sige kahit saan’,” Joey shared in an interview during the “Parade of Stars” for the Metro Manila Film Festival.
