Local police forces and rescue teams no doubt have witnessed the most gruesome of crime scenes and hair-raising situations. But as long as they know that they have the chance to right what was wrong and save a life, these people will do everything to make it happen. Back in 2013, the police and firemen from Pujiang, Zhejiang Province had the most unbelievable call about a newborn baby stuck in the sewer pipes after being flushed down the toilet.
A 22-year-old woman, who later confessed to being the mother of the child, was believed to have raised the alarm when her baby “slipped” into the sewer line. She alerted the landlord of what had happened after allegedly trying to free the child from the toilet.
But the baby slipped and was stuck in the sewer pipes. Chinese firemen worked tirelessly to free the newborn baby and took it to Pujiang County People’s Hospital for medical treatment. Reports of a fractured skull and severe bruising were confirmed but fortunately, the baby was in stable condition.
Videos of the firemen sawing the pipe and revealing the crying baby inside were all over the internet. Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, was suddenly flooded with comments about the whole fiasco. Netizens showed up at the hospital carrying baby clothes and food for the child while there were some who even wanted to adopt the child.
Police looked into the possibility of homicide, but ultimately, they did not know if the mother actually have ill intentions or if it was all a big mistake. But what Mirror UK reported that the child’s maternal grandparents would be taking care of the child as the mother neared a mental breakdown because of the “public pressure.”
What can you say about this unbelievable story? Do you think that the mother flushed her baby by accident or did she have a sinister intent? Share your thoughts and reactions in the comments section below!
