“Ang failure ay hindi dapat maging balakid upang maabot ang ating mga pangarap; bagkus maging bagong panimula.”
That was quote directly from Karl Emmanuel Mercader, son of a tricycle driver who dreamed of a better life by becoming a doctor.
The 30-year-old University of Perpetual Help Dalta, Piñas Las student took the Physician Licensure Examination and passed it with a rating of 88.58 percent. In fact, Mercader was the top 1 student out of 1,317 examinees nationwide.
On March 16 the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) declared that a total of 813 out of 1,317 passed the March 2017 Physician Licensure Examination.
Mr. Mercader lived a simple and modest life as the son of a tricycle driver and a mother who was a lawyer. He’s the third out of five siblings, all of whom pulled together their resources in order to send Meracder to school.
According to Mercader, his greatest inspiration lies within his parents. According to a report by GMA News, his 71-year-old father Perfecto worked tirelessly as a driver in order to provide Karl with a decent allowance.
“Naging inspirasyon ko po ang mga magulang ko dahil hindi sila nagsawang suportahan ako sa aking pag-aaral lalo na po ang tatay ko po,” Mercader said.
Mercader should’ve graduated back in 2011, but had to stop his studies in order to work as a call center agent. It was only after his parents and 90-year-old grandmother urged him that decided to finish his studies.
The President of the university is absolutely thrilled for their student’s success.
According to Dr. Alfonzo Loreto, School Director of University of Perpetual Help Dalta, Las Piñas, “For the past 21 years, ito po lamang nagkaroon ng topnotcher at ang masarap doon number one pa.”
The university plans to give Mercader a car for all his efforts.
