The elderly are the most common victims of Alzheimer's Disease. In the United Kingdom, there are 886,333 victims of Alzheimer's according to rightdiagnosis.com.
Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that causes problems in memory-retenion, thinking and behavior, according to Alz.org. People with the disease tend to forget their family, friends and some events in their life.
That's why Simon McDermott, the son of Ted McDermott who has an Alzheimer's, struggled when his Dad started to forget him and his mother.
"But he started forgetting who I was, and who mum was. He also started getting extreme aggression. That was the crisis point," Simon said.
However, Simon did not give up on his Father, and he had a brilliant idea to follow it through.
Ted was a singer back in the day and according to Simon, singing is what he loves to do.
"My dad's been a singer all his life and entertainer all his life. He's a real character and he loves singing. He's got a good voice," Simon said.
That is why he gave his father the album Songaminute with Ted MacDermott. Simon believes that through this album, he can help his Father remember.
According to DailyMail, a video of Ted was linked to a charity donation site named 'JustGiving' while the family hopes of getting a few donations.
"I thought we might raise about £500 but I set the target of £1000, for the Alzheimer's Society because it doesn't hurt to be ambitous," Simon told DailyMail. To his surprise, JustGiving raised about £150,000 and still counting.
Songaminuteman Ted and his son Simon posted a video of them singing 'Cuando Cuando' on YouTube and became a hit! It got 2,419,848 as of writing.
