'The most beautiful day' in the universe was held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, with 86 women all over the world competing for the most coveted crown in the history of beauty pageants, the Miss Universe title. One of the pre-requisites for each candidate is to show their knowledge and personality, along with their stance on some issues in the Question & Answer portion of the beauty pageant.
Initially, Maxine decided not to have an English translator for the portion, saying that she's confident enough to answer in English. However, several personalities have cited that it's alright for her to get a translator, including Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz.
According to ABS-CBN News, Gloria said: “She is a Filipina and I don’t think it will make her less of a beauty queen if she will decide to use our language on the grand coronation." Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach also supported the latter's statement, claiming it's alright for the candidate to get a translator.
However, in the grand coronation day itself, Maxine bravely faced the Question and Answer portion on her own, reaching the Top 6 of the pageant. Her question was, "What is the most significant change you've seen in the world in the last ten years?"
