Convenience stores exist for a reason- and the reason primarily is of course for the convenience of the customers. These stores are open 24/7 and are great for a quick fix-me-up anytime of the day.
However, after a recent photo of a rodent inside a food warmer in a convenience store went viral, customers are beginning to think twice.
The photo was taken from one of the convenience stores in Kelana Jaya, Malaysia and was allegedly shot last January 2. The store already issued a statement, assuring everyone that the situation has already been taken care of.
This is a part of their statement posted on their FB page:
"Please be assured, this is an isolated incident as we have certified quality assurance audits and regular pest control steps in place to prevent such occurrences.”
The photo aside from getting the usual reactions of disgust from the netizens also brought up a debate on speciesism which is defined as the assumption of human superiority leading to the exploitation of animals. On this case, it specifically pertains to the disgust over a certain animal such as rats.
While others decided to just poke fun and assume that Ratatouille came to life.
Hence, this incident only tells us to be careful. Not everything inside the food warmer can be eaten.
