Jeepneys have always been the go-to mode of transportation of Pinoys due to its ubiquity and convenience. They can be found everywhere, from small-scale barangays to posh commercial hubs like Makati. We even have the new e-jeeps plying Legaspi and Salcedo village.
Recently, an overseas Filipino worker went viral due his own special twist on the homegrown Pinoy classic. His jeepney is fully airconditioned, has functioning wi-fi, a karaoke system, and even a flat screen TV.!
Candido Hipolito of Baragay 6, Piddig in Ilocos Norte built a one-million peso worth jeep filled with colorful stickers and high-end accessories.
According to ABS-CBN News, the jeep is equipped aircon, wi-fi, a TV, a karaoke machine, and a CCTV camera.
The jeepney’s bumper, back door, and skirt are movable and hydraulically operated. It can seat 21 persons and is named after Hipolito’s fourth and youngest child, Scarlett.
Before he immigrated to Hawaii with his family, he worked as a jeepney driver in Locos Norte. He shared that owning a unique kind of a jeepney was a dream come true for him.
“Dati kasi nagda-drive ako ng Laoag-Piddig. Inambisyon ko rin na balang araw, magkakaroon din ako ng kakaibang sasakyan.” Hipolito said.
The OFW worker spent more than a million pesos on his dream jeepney that was made and assembled in Bulacan. He said they use the jeep when his family is in the Philippines for a vacation.
Don’t you wish you could ride Hipolito’s pimped-out jeepney?
