The life of an innocent 12–year–old girl was taken on Wednesday night in front of a church. The victim, Kristine Joy Sailog, was attending a ‘Simbang Gabi’ (dawn mass) with her mother and siblings.
“Mama…mama ko.”
These were her last words as she was shot in the heart by stray bullets when four unidentified gunmen shot at barangay tanod Allan Fernandez at the church’s gate.
A woman identified as Rowena Flores also got shot but she was immediately rushed to the hospital and is currently under observation in the ICU.
Kristine Joy, however, died in the arms of her mother that night.
The suspect’s primary target, Allan, died on the spot. He was an admitted drug user but had recently surrendered to local police upon the implementation of Oplan Tokhang several months ago.
Authorities in Barangay San Antonio decry the murders and stand by the victims’ families together with all the residents.
The parents of Kristine Joy continue to grieve with their daughter’s sudden and painful death. Looking back, they shared how big their daughter’s dreams were for all of them.
A sweet and thoughtful kid, they said.
This is not the first time the “wrong one” got involved in the country’s ongoing drug war.
