Because of the tragic Davao City Explosion which left 14 people dead, many netizens expressed their grief but many of them also took advantage of the incident to criticize the President.
The President and his administration received multiple criticisms from netizens including accusations that it was the government itself which plotted the bombing so President Duterte can have the basis to declare Martial Law. Moreover, some netizens questioned the security and safety of Davao City. In connection with these, netizens also questioned President Duterte’s ability to maintain peace and order in the country since it was his bailiwick which was attacked by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).
Amidst the criticism, still many Filipino netizens and local celebrities stood beside the President to defend him from various criticisms. One of which is the country’s most famous TV host and comedian Vice Ganda who used his Twitter account to express his anger to the terrorists:
Meanwhile, other local celebrities including Apl. De.ap of black Eyed Peace, Kiray Celis, Ken Chan, Mikey Bustos, Karen Davila, Tim Yap, Lovi Poe, Pia Wurtzback, Liza Dino, Aiza Seguerra and Gary Valenciano expressed their support and sympathy for the victims of the Davao City bombing.
