MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte will soon welcome three more grandchildren to his family after eldest daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced she is seven weeks pregnant.
In a statement explaining her absence during the festivities at Kadayawan 2016 festival, the incumbent Davao mayor said her family is expecting triplets.
“On this happy note, I would also like to share with you the news that I am pregnant and cannot join you in merrymaking activities,” the First Daughter said in the statement. “”We are expecting triplets and they are doing well on their 7th week.”
She added that her pregnancy is delicate as she is currently “having a hard time with the symptoms as well as the complications of a multifetal pregnancy.”
However, Duterte vowed to continue working as the city’s chief executive as long as she can, although she asks for understanding if she won’t be seen more often in public gatherings.
“I will continue to work until I am allowed by the doctors to do so, however, I have been advised to avoid crowded places to lessen the chances of acquiring infections,” said Duterte.
Duterte, or fondly called “Inday Sara”, has two children with her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio. This is her third pregnancy.
President Duterte currently has six grandchildren – two each from his three children.
