- President Duterte revealed that the most powerful drug cartel in the world is actively operating in the country
- He said Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel is using the Philippines as transshipment
- Batangas is reportedly the lair of the drug cartel in the Philippines
The Sinaloa drug cartel, considered by the United States intelligence community as “the most powerful drug trafficking organization in the world,” is actively operating in the Philippines, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.
President Duterte made the revelation during his speech before members of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) who paid a courtesy call to him at the Malacañang Palace on Wednesday, August 3.
“Is Mexico into us? Yes. Sinaloa iyong cartel nila, tayo ang transshipment. Kasi in-eradicate sila ng mga Amerikano. Binomba sila. Kaya dito sila active ang Sinaloa. I never, never, never hoist a lie. I’m telling you,” Duterte told PPCRV members.

According to Update PH, the information that the Sinaloa drug cartel has been actively operating in the country is one of the primary reasons why the Duterte administration strengthened its campaign against illegal drugs.
President Duterte warned that if he is not able to eradicate the drug menace in the country, it will be a problem forever.
“Seven years from now, double the addicts, by the increase, then we will have the narcopolitics,” he warned.
Batangas is reportedly the Sinaloa drug cartel’s lair in the country.
In 2014, a cock-fighting farm in Lipa City, Batangas was raided by the Philippine National Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force. The raid netted 84 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “shabu.” Three members of the Sinaloa drug cartel were arrested during the raid.
In 2015, a Mexican national suspected of being a member of the drug cartel, identified as 39-year-old Horacio Hernandez, was arrested in Makati City after selling P12 million worth of cocaine to an undercover agent.
