Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. made an emotional plea to his son Kerwin to surrender to the police after giving a sworn statement in front of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Roel Obusan last Wednesday.
Espinosa said in Cebuano, “Anak, kung napapanood mo ako sa TV ngayon, nahihirapan ako. Surrender na lang tayo kasi tutulungan naman tayo ng ating Presidente at ng ating PNP chief (Director) General Ronald Dela Rosa. Makakaasa ka na kapag nag-surrender ka tutulungan ka nila.”
Investigation by the Philippine National Police (PNP) revealed the mayor of Albuera and his son had ties with drug syndicates.
President Rodrigo Duterte asked the two to surrender within 24 hours, otherwise he will order the PNP to “shoot them on sight.”
Espinosa surrendered yesterday around 2 pm and promised to cooperate “100 percent” with the investigation. He will also submit himself to a drug test once he gets medical clearance from his doctor.
His son Kerwin, however, is still at large, and according to the Bureau of Immigration, has left the country for Malaysia days after Duterte’s inaguration.
