MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is all praises for President Rodrigo Duterte; calling the new Chief Executive as a “very humble” man and the “right person” to lead this country.
In a live Facebook chat with her fans, Tempo‘s Robert Requintina quoted the Filipina beauty queen as saying: “I think we chose the right person to be our president.”
“He is very nice. Mabait siya, sobrang bait niya [He’s a good man, indeed]. He is very humble and he’s very approachable,”she said.
Wurtzbach paid a courtesy visit to Duterte at Malacañang last week. She is currently in the country to discuss with the President the possibility of hosting the 2016 Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines.
A press release from Malacañang regarding the courtesy call said the two also discussed the “similarities between them, with both of them hailing from Mindanao and winning their respective titles as the first Mindanaoan President and first Mindanaoan Ms. Universe”.
After the meeting, Wurtzbach described the 71-year-old former Davao City mayor as a man with “commanding presence”.
“As soon as he walks into the room, he has this commanding presence that you can approach him and talk to him,” she told her social media followers.
On the possibility of holding the Miss Universe pageant in the country, Wurtzbach said she is optimistic and they’re just sorting out some details of the event before it can be finalized.
“Of course, everything could still change but I’m being very optimistic about it and I really hope it will push through. That’s what I want personally,” she said.
Wurtzbach added the pageant will be a great way to promote tourism and showcase the country’s beautiful islands, different locations and tourist destinations to the world.
