MANILA, Philippines – Presenting the host of this year’s Miss Universe… Steve Harvey!
According to the Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Kat de Castro, Harvey is again set to be the host of the 2016 Miss Universe to be hosted here in the Philippines.
She said Harvey has been itching for a way to make amends to the Filipino people especially after his monumental blunder during the last Miss Universe.
“He wants to apologize to the Filipinos who were hurt because of what happened,” she told ABS-CBN.
De Castro added that President Rodrigo Duterte himself was surprised at Harvey having been again chosen to host the pageant. She said she explained to him that Harvey has a multi-year contract to host Miss Universe.
“Nagulat din siya. Sabi niya, ‘Bakit?’ Dagdag pa niya, ‘He is a disaster.’ Ginanun ako ni Presidente. Eh sabi ko, ‘Sir, mukhang iyon na po talaga ang naging desisyon ng mga taga-Miss Universe.’ Tumawa na lang siya,” De Castro shared.
[He was also surprised. He asked why and added ‘He is a disaster’. The president told me that. I answered ‘Sir, seems like it’s the final decision of the Miss Universe organizers.’ He just laughed.]
In the last edition, Harvey mistakenly crowned Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez instead of current titleholder Pia Wurtzbach after reading the result card wrongly.
Although he apologized profusely for the blunder both personally to Gutierrez and Wurtzbach as well as on his talk show, the hullabaloo generated a controversy and even sparked a weeks-long online flame war between the two contestants’ fans.
