The public can expect better traffic flow in Metro Manila within the next 100 days, Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said Tuesday, July 12.
He said Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade presented a “menu of changes” during the second Cabinet meeting in Malacañang on Monday, July 11, that could positively impact the rate of traffic flow in Metro Manila very soon.
“Secretary Tugade made a presentation yesterday and already they have a menu of changes which could very positively impact the rate of flow – traffic flow, soon, very soon,” Abella said.
Asked to clarify the government’s timeline to ease traffic condition in Metro Manila, Abella said, “Within the next 100 days, you should be feeling something. May mga resulta na (There will be results). I’m sure within the next 100 days, we’re going to see results. Already there seems to be some, right?”
As mentioned in Nestor Corrales’ article for Inquirer, among Transportation Secretary Tugade’s proposals are the alternative sites where commuters could buy train tickets and the construction of “nicer and better waiting rooms.”
“They’ll try to reduce travel time pero habang nag-aantay kayo [but while you are waiting] for the next trip maganda ‘yung paghihintayan, aayusin [the waiting area will be improved],” said Abella without going into details.
Abella also said that technical adjustments are being done to “incrementally increase the number of passengers and number of trips.”
Secretary Tugade earlier vowed to improve the facilities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the country’s premier airport.
“Expect an operation that is fully CCTV-ized, expect an airport that is communication-friendly, expect our airport where the toilet no longer stinks and the airconditioning works well. Today is a meaningful day,” he said. “We are taking one big step to address issues that have made people in the Republic uncomfortable and angry.”
