Just shortly before then President–elect Rodrigo Roa Duterte assumes presidency, around a hundred drug suspects have shown in the barangay hall of Barangay Poblacion to voluntarily surrender themselves in. The drug suspects claimed that they wanted to surrender since they found out that their names were on the drug watchlist.
One of the suspects, a 22–year–old said, “May nakapagsabi kasi sa akin, sir, na nasa listahan daw ako. Most of them surrendered were methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu users.
Marcelo Mendoza, a police senior inspector commented that the drug watchlist actually didn’t came from the Philippine National Police (PNP) but from the Barangay Anti–Drug Abuse Control.
Meanwhile, Barangay Chairman, Noel Morido Sr. stated that not even a lot of effort was made to make the drug suspects surrender.
In Sarangani, a number of almost 500 drug suspects have surrendered to authorities. And according to those authorities, those whom surrendered will undertake a drug symposiun before recommended for technical training and gain profit from any livelihood assistance.
