Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento was recognized in the 2016 US International Film and Video Festival.
In an article that was posted on GMA News Online, it was disclosed that the sitcom — which is top billed by Kapuso comedy genius Michael V, Manilyn Reynes and Jake Vargas — took home the Certificate for Creative Excellence in the Comedy category.
Pepito Manaloto is a Philippine award-winning live situational comedy created by Michael V. for GMA Network. The show, which premiered on GMA Pinoy TV on April 5, 2010, is currently on its fifth season.
The first season started on March 28, 2010, which focused on the adventures of Pepito and his family who are still quite unaccustomed to the life of luxury and excess that they now have to enjoy after winning from the lottery.
After four seasons, due to public demand, the network brought the show back. Titled Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento, the show departs itself from the previous seasons. The Manalotos’ rags-to-riches experience earned them a TV show, but because they thought their show didn’t reveal the true story, the network scrapped the project. As a result, the family came up with an idea to show exactly what goes on in the Manaloto household by having their own camera crew filming their lives 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The festival
GMA-7 is the only Philippine TV network that won in this year’s festival.
Alamat and GMA News TV’s documentary program Reel Time each obtained the Gold Camera Award.
Meanwhile, the News and Public Affairs programs I-Witness and Reporter’s Notebook bagged the Silver Screen Award as well.
