ORLANDO, Florida – In what is considered to be the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, the massacre in Florida gay club which killed 50 club-goers and wounded 53 others, one victim who was killed in the incident was able to send his final text messages to his mother before he was gunned down.
Eddie Justice, 30, sent his mom, Mina, poignant text messages while he was hiding in the women’s bathroom of the Pulse nightclub where a gunman has gone berserk and open fired at the clubbers.
According to Metro, Mina woke up in the wee hours to her son’s text message saying ‘Mommy I love you. In club they shooting (sic).’ She said her son had asked her to call the police. When Mina tried to call him and got no answer, she sent him an sms asking where he was. He told her he was trapped in a bathroom in Pulse (nightclub), downtown. Eddie, an accountant, texted her at 2:39 which read:
“Call them mommy. Now. He’s coming. I’m gonna die.”
In a few more exchanges of what seems to be the most excruciating text messages to read, Eddie told Mina that the gunman was with them in the bathroom, and that the policemen need to come and get them.
Hours after Eddie’s last text, Mina said she knew something was wrong. She was at a hotel with a dozen other people who were waiting for some news.
“His name has not come up yet and that’s scary. It’s just … It’s just, I got this feeling. I got a bad feeling.”
It was later confirmed that Eddie Justice was one of the hostages killed in the club.
The gunman was identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, who was carrying a .223 caliber AR type rifle and a handgun when he open fired at the club. He was killed by SWAT officers.
