At least 10 kilograms of suspected shabu [methamphetamine hydrochloride] were found by patrolling policemen inside an abandoned sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Pandacan, Manila.
An Inquirer article dated June 2, 2016 quoted Manila Police District Director Chief Supt. Rolando Nana as saying that it was the police officers from the Pandacan Police Station who found the Honda CRV with license plate number RFC 205 abandoned at the Zamora Interlink Bridge at around 2 a.m. Thursday, June 2.
Nana said members of the MPD’s Explosive and Ordnance Division were called to the scene to check the vehicle for explosives. No explosives were found, but the search led to the discovery of a black plastic package wrapped with tape inside the SUV.
Upon inspection, the black package was discovered to contain 10 packs of 1 kilogram each of shabu with an estimated value of at least P50 million.
The illegal drugs, as told by reporter Mike Navallo to Anthony Taberna of ABS-CBN’s “Umagang Kay Ganda,” were packed to look like Chinese tea. Navallo said each pack of the suspected shabu bore Chinese markings with the words “refined Chinese tea” printed on them.
No suspect was arrested, but the MPD said they received information that two men were seen running away from the vehicle around 2 a.m.
The MPD said it will coordinate with the Land Transportation Office to identify the owner of the abandoned SUV.
