MANILA, Philippines – Coming home to be with your loved ones seem to be one of the best things for an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). Their reunion could be one of the most heartwarming scenes you could ever witness.
And then imagine how much more consoling can it get to see an OFW, who was imprisoned for almost ten years, come home to his family? Tearful, we guess.
Jonard Langamin, 32, an OFW from Saudi Arabia, is finally home after he was saved from death sentence. In 2008, Langamin stabbed to death a fellow Filipino seafarer, Robertson Mendoza, after the two got involved in a scuffle when the latter prevented Langamin from singing.
Langamin, who was due to be beheaded in 2012, was spared from death when Vice President Jejomar Binay, then presidential adviser on OFW affairs, secured a ‘tanazul’ or an affidavit of forgiveness from the family of his victim.
Onboard Philippine Airlines flight PR 683 from Damman, Saudi Arabia, Langamin arrived on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 where his parents Edith and Clemente Langamin, together with Susan Ople, head of the Blas F. Ople Policy Center, welcomed home the younger Langamin in a tearful reunion.
On a Facebook post, Susan Ople wrote:
“Welcome home, Abdul Rahman Olimba Langamin! Praise the Lord for this special and blessed homecoming! Kami sa [We at] Ople Center ay natutuwa na naging bahagi ng iyong buhay mula sa death row ng Saudi hanggang sa araw ng iyong paglaya [We at Ople Center are happy to be a part of your life – from the death row to your release.]. Salamat sa [Thank you] DFA, kay [to] Ambassador Ezzedin Tago, kay [to] VP Binay at sa pamilyang Mendoza [to Mendoza family], at sa lahat ng tumulong kay [and to everyone who helped] Jonard!”
